Stay Safe During the Cold Weather: Warming Shelter Information for Florida Residents

As freezing temperatures approach, counties across Florida are stepping up to ensure the safety and well-being of residents. If you’re in Leon, Bay, or Escambia Counties, here’s what you need to know to stay warm and safe during this cold weather.


Warming Shelters Information

Bay County

  • Location: A.D. Harris Learning Village, 819 E. 11th Street, Panama City
  • Hours: Open 24/7 starting Sunday, January 19, and available each evening as needed.
  • Transportation: BayWay Transit will provide free transportation on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Starting Monday, January 20, Routes 2 and 4 will also be available.

Leon County

  • For Single Adults (18+): The Kearney Center, 2650 Municipal Way
  • For Families (At least 1 adult and 1 child): HOPE Community, 2729 West Pensacola Street
  • For Youth (Ages 10-17): 2407 Roberts Avenue
    • Hotline Number: (850) 576-6000

Escambia County

  • Waterfront Rescue Mission

    • Address: 348 W. Herman St., Pensacola
    • Accepting men and women, open 24 hours with no charge during cold weather events.
  • REAP Max-Well Respite Center

    • Address: 2200 N. Palafox St., Pensacola
    • Accepting women with children.
    • Hours: Open daily, with expanded capacity during cold weather events. Intake from 4-6 p.m. (later intake allowed if accompanied by law enforcement).

Closures and Local Updates

Due to the cold weather, some counties may implement 1- or 2-day closures. Stay informed by checking local news and county websites for updates on closures and other essential services.
